Accessibility statement
Last updated: 12 October 2026
JOOM wants everyone to be able to use this website, including people with visual, hearing, motor or cognitive disabilities and people who use assistive technology. This statement describes what we have done, what we know is not yet right, and how to tell us about a barrier.
Our standard
We aim for the website at byjoom.com (the Website) to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. We also aim to comply with the Equality Act 2010, under which a provider of services in Great Britain must not discriminate and must make reasonable adjustments, and with the equivalent laws in the other countries where we work.
Where we are now
The Website was built with accessibility in mind and has been checked by the team. It has not yet been independently audited, so we do not claim that it fully meets WCAG 2.2 AA. This statement was prepared on 12 October 2026 and will be reviewed after any independent audit and at least once a year.
What we have done:
- semantic page structure, with headings, landmarks and a "Skip to content" link;
- keyboard operation of all navigation and controls, with a visible focus indicator;
- a descriptive text alternative for every image;
- text that can be resized and reflows on narrow screens without loss of content, from a phone to a wide desktop;
- text and interface colours chosen for strong contrast, and colour is not the only way information is shown;
- no content that flashes, no autoplaying video or audio, and no time limits;
- movement kept to small effects that stop when your device is set to reduce motion;
- a frosted, semi-transparent header whose contrast is raised for people who set reduced transparency;
- an Arabic version in right-to-left layout, with the page language and direction declared so that screen readers pronounce text correctly.
Known limitations
We know about the following and are working on them:
- Text alternatives are short. Image descriptions describe the building and setting briefly. They do not describe every detail.
- Small labels. Some small labels and captions (for example place names under project titles) are set at about 12 px. They can be enlarged with browser zoom but may be harder to read than we want.
- Changing home-page image. The large image on the home page changes at each visit. It does not change while you are on the page.
- Legal pages are in English only at present. Arabic versions will follow (see the Legal notice).
- Arabic text. The Arabic translation is under editorial review, and some wording may change.
- Not yet tested with a full range of assistive technology, including a range of screen readers and voice-control software, on every device and browser.
- Contact is by email only. If email is not accessible to you, tell us how you would like to be contacted and we will try to arrange it.
Alternative formats
If you need information on this Website in another format, such as large print, plain text, an audio description of an image, or a call, write to us and say what you need. We will respond within the time stated below and will not charge for a reasonable request.
Tell us about a barrier
- Email: hello@byjoom.com, subject "Accessibility". Please say which page, what you were trying to do, what stopped you, and which device, browser and assistive technology you use.
- We aim to acknowledge your message within 5 working days, and to give you a substantive reply or a fix within 20 working days. If a fix will take longer, we will tell you why and when to expect it.
If you are not satisfied
If you are not happy with our response, you can use the process in Contacting us and complaints. If you are in Great Britain and you think we have breached the Equality Act 2010, you can contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS). In Northern Ireland, you can contact the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland. In other countries, you can contact the public body responsible for disability rights or digital accessibility there.
Legal context
The accessibility regulations for public sector bodies in the United Kingdom (the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018) do not apply to us. The European Accessibility Act (Directive (EU) 2019/882) applies to certain consumer services offered in the EU, and this Website does not offer those services. We nevertheless work to the same standard, because it is the right one.
